When it comes to humidifiers, there are different styles to choose. 

The run-through ones are cheaper and easy to install but they use more water and the pads need to be replaced depending on the cleanliness. 

The drum ones installed with water saving kit can save water but need to be installed properly and are more expensive. 

The steam ones are high end but also the most expensive.
